Using low-altitude aerial
cinematography and dynamic
imagery to help tell stories.
Stratus Aerial is a Boston-based company utilizing the latest unmanned technology to bridge the gap between traditional ground and aerial filming. Low-altitude aerial filming opens up an incredible amount of creative possibilities and dynamic shots, and should seamlessly integrate into any footage sequence. We strive to create imagery that doesn’t just scream “drone shot!” but truly brings the viewer into the scene and adds to the narrative in unique ways. We bring our experienced piloting skills, creative curiosity, and fleet of the latest UAV systems to every opportunity we can.
Stratus had the pleasure of providing aerial footage for MotorTrend’s newest show, Junkyard Gold. A beautiful day in Bernardston, MA at a 32 acre junkyard allowed us to see some amazing old cars and film them in unique ways with the DJI Inspire 2. We spent all day swapping batteries and filming non-stop, capturing views of the entire junkyard as well as many low-altitude shots of cars and the host touring the area. Precise piloting yielded extremely dynamic fly-ins from high up to a couple feet away of the featured cars. We learned some amazing things about some classic cars and combined creativity with piloting to showcase them in distinct ways, keeping viewers engaged.
Our primary “drone” of choice is the DJI Inspire 2 paired with the X5S MFT camera sensor. The Inspire 2 is an incredible proprietary UAV imaging system capable of 12 bit RAW images with 20.8 effective MP, 12.8 stops of dynamic range, and 5.2k video. Our range of MFT-compatible lenses allow us to capture stunning footage at various focal lengths to fit the creative needs of your project. Available codecs include H.264, H.265, ProRes 422 (HQ) and ProRes 4444 XQ. The Inspire 2 is an exciting system to add to our fleet, giving us the flexibility to work on projects of many scales. Did we mention it can reach speeds up to 58 mph?
Stratus prides itself on holding the highest standards of safety. After all, safety is the foremost advantage of drone technology! Our extensive remote piloting experience yields carefully planned operations and precise flying. We hold all necessary certifications and insurances for safe UAV flight.
